COMMUNITY LIVABILITY SURVEY RESULTS SAY YUCCA VALLEY IS STILL A GREAT PLACE TO LIVE, DESPITE SOME CHALLENGES

The results of the 2021 Yucca Valley Community Livability Survey were presented to the Town Council this week. The survey polled residents on what they like about Yucca Valley alongside things that the town can do better. For a deeper look at the survey’s results, we go to reporter Jef Harmatz…

The results of the livability survey showed that nearly 2/3 of surveyed residents rated the overall quality of life in Yucca Valley as good or excellent. Based on 20-minute interviews with 569 residents, the town’s strong points were listed as its “small town” atmosphere, community events, and emergency services. The town received low marks for its handling of homelessness, traffic, and the lack of dining and shopping options. Tourism remains a divisive topic: 41 percent feel negatively about short-term rentals while 46% feel positively, with positive respondents skewing younger. A majority of respondents suggested punishing problematic short-term rentals as a means of resolving issues with tourism.
