COMMUNITY DISASTER PREPAREDNESS DAY COMING SOON

Here in Southern California, you are often told to prepare for “the big one”. In fact, if you google “the big one”, you are bombarded with articles about the potential earthquake that will destroy the West. If your emergency supplies are lacking, Saturday (October 23) may be the day to mark on your calendar. Reporter Heather Clisby has the details …

Whether you consider the San Andreas Fault, the San Jacinto Fault or the many others that stretch across our desert, the fact is, we live in earthquake country. Southern California experienced 11 small earthquakes just in the last week alone. But the San Andreas Fault is about 300 years overdue, making it ripe for a shocker that is 4.0 or higher, which could result in property damage and interruption of services.

To help get locals in earthquake-ready shape, the Morongo Basin Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) is hosting a Community Disaster Preparedness Day on Saturday, October 23 from 10:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. in the Walmart parking lot, 58501 Twentynine Palms Highway in Yucca Valley.

The event will feature valuable information on community resources and live demonstrations on public safety. There will also be tips on water purification and storage, animal care, basic first aid, crucial supplies and survival skills.

This is a free event, no pre-registration required. For more info, visit the Morongo Basin CERT page at https://morongobasincert.org/
