Joshua Tree National Park officials intend to improve the Cottonwood visitor center with a larger, energy-efficient building to accommodate growing visitation and crowding in the park. As part of the improvement process, National Park Service officials have released an environmental assessment for public review and comment. Due to the partial government shut-down, the public comment period on the environmental assessment has been extended through February 19.
