Theatre 29 announces auditions for “Farndale…Christmas Carol.” Reporter Rebecca Havely says director Marty Nieder is seeking four women and one man for the play…
The comical play franchise with the exceptionally long titles such as, “Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild Dramatic Society’s A Christmas Carol” is a set of plays that spoofs the classics. The English troupe of ladies has mounted an assault on Dickens’ holiday classic in Theatre 29’s next show offering. The talented Marty Neider is no stranger to this play series, she’s performed and directed other “Farndale” favorites to rave reviews. She’s seeking a cast of four women and one man in the following roles: Phoebe Reece is 30-50, the troupe’s leader. She plays multiple roles in the play within a play. Thelma Greenwood, also 30-50, she’s Reece’s grumpy arch rival; she plays Scrooge. Mercedes Baxter-Smythe is 30-50, and eager to please, but accident prone. Felicity Kumar is 20-30, the shy, eager young ingenue. Gordon Pugh is the troupe’s stage manager until a cast injury forces him into the spotlight. Auditions are Monday, October 5, at 6:30 p.m. at Theatre 29.
“Farndale…Christmas Carol” will run November 20 through December 19. Ticket prices are $8 to $12 and can be purchased on line at theatre29.org or by calling 760-361-4151. Theatre 29 is located at 73637 Sullivan Road in Twentynine Palms.
