Copper Mountain College invites members of the Morongo Basin community to a free academic conference titled What Is Really Real? Distinguishing Fact from Opinions this Saturday, April 30, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., on the CMC campus in the 100 Quad, and over Zoom.
Several honored speakers will discuss issues related to how to distinguish facts from opinions, myths, beliefs, and stereotypes. Speakers include Rob Ruiz, Ed.D., Fulbright scholar and former Director of Forensics at University of La Verne; Noah Giansiracusa, PhD author of “How Algorithms Create and Prevent Fake News”; and Catherine Svehla, PhD, host of the Myth Matters podcast; Chloe Allred, instructor and artist; and Dr. Emily Hu, therapist and trauma specialist. In addition, San Bernardino County Supervisor Paul Cook will explain how public officials evaluate information; Michelle Zaccaria from the Morongo Basin Health District will discuss vaccinations; and Craig Dicht of the Bighorn-Desert View Water Agency will present on the quantity, quality, and costs of water in the California High Desert.
