CMC Fighting Cacti women’s basketball starts season with a win over Southwestern

The Copper Mountain College (CMC) women’s basketball team began their season with a strong win over Southwestern College 63-43. This victory set a promising tone for the Fighting Cacti, which did not field a team last season. The new season brings enthusiasm and optimism for CMC’s women’s basketball under the leadership of Coach Kris Groce, as they aim to build momentum in the early season games.  The Fighting Cacti Women will play again tomorrow at noon, in the Bell center as they play host to Cuyamaca College.

Copper Mountain College’s men’s basketball team faced a challenging start to their season, falling to #18-ranked Southwestern College in their opener. Despite their best efforts and intense competition, the Fighting Cacti couldn’t overcome the hot shooting of their highly-ranked opponent.  The Fighting Cacti showed a lot of promise for the remainder of the season with four of their players scoring in double digits, with Jordan Morency leading the team with 13.  This game marked the start of a season where Copper Mountain will look to build on each performance as they navigate the competitive schedule ahead.
