CMC FIGHTING CACTI VOLLEYBALL TEAM PLAYS FIRST GAME IN SCHOOL’S HISTORY

The Copper Mountain College Fighting Cacti women’s volleyball team played its first game in the school’s history Friday (August 27) in an away game against the Palomar College Comets. Although the Fighting Cacti played well, the Comets took home the victory, 3-0. The Fighting Cacti will travel to Santiago Canyon Wednesday (September 1), then to Santa Monica Saturday (September 4). The team’s first home match will be held Tuesday (September 7) against Compton College.

In game one after, trailing by 10 points, the Cacti mounted a run behind the serving of Lyric Oliveros-Levine closing the gap to 23-17 before Palomar closed it out. Game 2 saw Palomar in control the whole way as they took it 25-8. The Cacti showed they had no quit as they stormed out in game 3 to take a 4-0 lead behind two big blocks from Chelsea LeBoutillier. Palomar eventually won the game and match to end the Cacti’s historic night. There were many positives to build on as the Cacti move forward in the season. Annie Hilderbrand led the way with 5 assists in the match and Chelsea LeBoutillier led the team with 11 digs. After the game, Palomar and CMC took a group photo to commemorate the event.
