It was a day of cheers, special honors, and goodbyes for the Copper Mountain College Board of Trustees in their meeting yesterday. Jef Harmatz has the full meeting breakdown…
At last night’s meeting of the Copper Mountain College Board of Trustees, the board first adjusted the order of affairs to celebrate the retirement of Cathy Inscore, a CMC alum, local theatre advocate, library specialist, and a pivotal part of CMC’s increase in student mental health awareness. Inscore left the board with the message “keep fighting for our students!” Following a brief, cupcake-filled intermission, the board also paid respects to recently passed local artist, Steve Reiman, who completed many works around the college and taught art at the college for many years. Continuing the college’s twentieth-anniversary celebration, honors also went out during the meeting to Morongo Basin Healthcare District Board President, Misty Dawn Shakti Sharma, RN, for personifying CMC’s most precious values, earning her a standing ovation.
In reports, the board heard about the plans for College to Career week with many events and a goal of recruiting more students to be actively involved with the college. The college is also looking to add a construction trades program to support local labor needs. The board continued on with their COVID update, where students and staff are now allowed to go maskless in most places on campus. In addition, the board discussed data, services, and needs for the college’s veteran student population as part of a broader discussion of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility at the college. The trustees approved the selection of six delegates for the California Community College Trustees Board and discussed and approved an agreement with Timeclock for electronic timesheets, a welcome step into the 21st century.
