The Copper Mountain College Board of Trustees met in regular session yesterday at the CMC Bell Center. During the meeting, Superintendent/President Dr. Daren Otten reminded those in attendance that applications for the Greenleaf Scholarship are currently being accepted, with applications due February 22, 2022. The application can be found at https://www.cmccd.edu/wp-content/uploads/2021/10/2022-Greenleaf-Scholarship-Application-10.26.21.pdf. CMC Foundation Executive Director Sandy Smith echoed Dr. Otten’s remarks about the Greenleaf Scholarship, in addition to promoting the Annual Festival of Wreaths fundraiser, scheduled for Sunday, November 21 at 2:00. Tickets will be available at the door for this event. As part of the college’s ongoing 20th Anniversary celebration, the board then honored the legacy of Michelle M. Zaccaria for her service to CMC’s nursing program. According to Zaccaria, “I am a product of this program and believe it is vital to the success of healthcare in our Basin.” The board also recognized a current student and president of the newly formed college communication club, Brett Hope, as part of student showcase. With Board Clerk Eva Kinsman and Vice-President Mary Lombardo absent, the three members in attendance then heard a presentation from Cooperative Strategies regarding the proposed redistricting maps. Board President Liz Meyer expressed concerns over how transient members of the community, specifically the military population, were factored into the mapping scenarios. Later, the first reading of the college’s drug-free environment policy was presented. The board then voted unanimously to approve the tentative agreements with CMC Faculty Association, confidential employees, academic management and supervisors, and the California School Employees Association. They also designated the annual reorganization meeting for December 10 at 1:00 p.m.
