The Desert Institute, the educational arm of the Joshua Tree National Park, is offering two upcoming classes for nature lovers seeking a closer look at our desert. Reporter Heather Clisby has the details…
On November 23, the Desert Institute will offer the class “Photographing the Hi-Desert,” an all-day intensive photo shoot guided by Craig Fucile. Class begins at Big Morongo Canyon Preserve, followed by an instructional program at Black Rock Canyon Visitor Center and concludes with a special session at Keys Ranch.
On November 23 and 24, the Desert Institute will offer the class “Biological Soil Crusts in Joshua Tree National Park” which will focus on that crucial first inch of desert soil surface and the micro-organisms that live there. Led by Nicole Pietrasiak and Theresa Clarke, this class involves both field exploration and lab work.
