CITY OF TWENTYNINE PALMS OPENS COOL CENTER AS HEAT INCREASES

The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat watch in effect from Sunday morning through Monday evening. As summer approaches and daily temperatures begin to climb into the 100s, Twentynine Palms residents can keep cool at the newly remodeled Senior Center in downtown Twentynine Palms. The center has been designated as a cooling center. The Senior Center is air conditioned and is open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Should the heat index reach 115 degrees or other conditions or emergencies necessitate, the building will be open for additional hours and on weekends to serve as an emergency cooling center. The building is also equipped with a generator in case of power outages. While the Senior Center serves lunch Monday through Friday, food is not available at other times. Pets are not allowed at the cooling center. The Senior Center is located at 6539 Adobe Road, across from the fire station. For more information, call 760-367-5780.
