The City of Twentynine Palms has received a $6 million commitment from the State to complete funding for Project Phoenix, a downtown economic development effort to stimulate businesses, provide community facilities and infrastructure, affordable housing for senior citizens, and improve the quality of life for civilian and military residents.
The City Council thanked Assemblyman Chad Mayes for securing this critical funding as part of the state budget.
Mayes said, “For too long, our community has been neglected by Sacramento politicians who represent powerful urban districts. I’m thankful that by working collaboratively, our community will receive the funding it so desperately needs to revitalize our downtown and improve the lives of so many in Twentynine Palms.”
The project consists of public improvements (curb, gutter, sidewalks, paseos, under-grounding utilities, and a package treatment plant), a Multi-Purpose Building, and a Senior Designated housing project. The anticipated cost of the entire project is $32 million, which the City was $6 million under-funded.
