“CHRISTMAS CAROL” CONTINUES AT THEATRE 29

With full houses, the holiday classic, “A Christmas Carol” continues its run though December 14th at Theatre 29.   Director Rob Wanless explained that Charles Dickens originally wrote the tale of redemption after being asked by members of Parliament to write a pamphlet on poverty. After visiting workhouses and mills instead of a pamphlet, he wrote this story.    Wanless said , “This adaptation of “A Christmas Carol,” adapted by Romulus Linney, captures a very direct affect that one person can have on another. Scrooge could help hundreds of people if he only treated them with companion and mercy. He could quite literally save lives, end suffering, if he only chooses to. But it takes a great scare to wake him up to the affects of his greedy behavior.  I think Charles Dickens would be quite pleased.”

Reviewer Tami Roleff praised the caliber of the performers, saying, “Theatre 29 veteran Kurt Schauppner is perfect as Ebenezer Scrooge; it’s the role he was born to play. Also outstanding is Lizzie Schmelling as Belle, Scrooge’s love interest when he was a young man…. this is her best performance to date. Other standouts are Herman Platzke as Scrooge’s dead business partner Jacob Marley, Adam Redman as Scrooge’s nephew Fred, and Leonard Weber as Bob Cratchit.”

“A Christmas Carol” is playing Friday and Saturday nights at 7:00 pm weekends though December 14th with a 2:30 pm Matinee Sunday, December 8th. Tickets are $8 to $12 and can be reserved and purchased online at www.theatre29.org or by calling the Theatre 29 Box Office at 760-361-4151.
