CHP TO HOLD MAXIMUM ENFORCEMENT PERIOD THIS WEEKEND

Although the pandemic may keep many people close to home this weekend, others will be traveling during the Labor Day holiday. This means the California Highway Patrol will be conducting a maximum enforcement period from 6 p.m. Friday, September 4, through midnight Monday, September 7. Managing editor Tami Roleff has more information about driving safely this holiday weekend…

All available CHP officers will be out on the roads through midnight Monday for enhanced enforcement efforts. Officers will focus on impaired drivers, distracted drivers, and other infractions, such as not wearing seatbelts. Last year, 45 people were killed in crashes throughout California during the Labor Day weekend, and nearly three-quarters of them were not wearing a seatbelt. In addition, the CHP made more than 1,000 arrests for driving under the influence during last year’s Labor Day weekend. The CHP urges residents to buckle up, avoid distractions, keep to a safe and legal speed, and always designate a sober driver.
