The California Highway Patrol, along with the National Football League, is joining in the Fans Don’t Let Fans Drive Drunk campaign, and encourages people to make plans ahead of time for a designated driver. CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow said, “If you choose to drink, do not drive.” According to the CHP, on Super Bowl Sunday in 2012 (the most recent year available), 422 people were arrested by the CHP for DUI, and alcohol was involved in 225 crashes, resulting in eight deaths. If you see someone you suspect is driving while impaired, call 911 and be prepared to provide a vehicle description, license plate number, location, and direction of travel.
