With the state’s stay-at-home order, traffic on the roads has been considerably lighter. Good news for those who are still working, but Ernest Figueroa says the California Highway Patrol is busier than ever…
From March 19, when the state’s stay-at-home order began, to April 19, the California Highway Patrol has issued 2,493 citations statewide for speeding more than 100 miles per hour. That’s an increase of 1,335, or 87 percent, from the same time last year, despite a reduction of traffic volume of 35 percent. A spokeswoman for Caltrans said, “Fewer cars on the road doesn’t give drivers the green light to travel over the speed limit.” Caltrans will soon display signs with a safety message urging drivers not to speed.
