Start Smart is a class offered free of charge by the CHP to teen drivers. The class takes place at the CHP office at 63683 29 Palms Highway in Joshua Tree, January 13, at 6 p.m. Teens may arrive with their parents or guardians for the 1½- to 2-hour class. Start Smart is an interactive, safe driving awareness class which will illustrate how poor choices behind the wheel of a car can affect the lives of numerous people. It also focuses on the responsibilities of newly licensed drivers and the responsibilities of their parents plus collision avoidance techniques.
