The California Highway Patrol has identified the drivers involved in the head-on crash on Highway 62 Wednesday evening. Mario Zanin, 29, of Palm Springs, was driving a red 2004 Acura eastbound on the highway at 8:50 p.m. while intoxicated. His car traveled into the westbound lanes, where it collided head on with a white 1996 Chevy Lumina driven by Kristina McAnulty, 22 of Palm Springs, which burst into flames. Zanin, McAnulty, and a male passenger in McAnulty’s car were all taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs for treatment. The CHP expects that felony DUI charges will be filed against Mario Zanin.
