The California Highway Patrol’s Morongo Basin Area Office in Joshua Tree is looking for motivated citizens who want to give something back to their community as Senior Volunteers. Reporter Eric Knabe has more on how you can participate…

Senior Volunteers are CHP employees who assist in both administrative and field capacities, such as filing, data entry, photocopying, answering phones, and assisting the Watch Officer at the front desk. Field functions can be working at community events, directing traffic, deploying radar trailers, and shuttle vehicles and equipment. Senior Volunteers drive marked CHP cars in uniform while performing field duties. Volunteers attend shift briefings and occasionally ride along with officers.

Requirements are that you are 55 years or older, can work a minimum of four hours per week, pass a background check, have a good driving record, and complete the CHP Senior Volunteer training program. For additional information, call Officer Jason Kobaly at 760-366-3707.
