CHP IDENTIFIES PEDESTRIAN KILLED BY CAR IN MORONGO VALLEY

The California Highway Patrol has identified the victim of a fatal pedestrian crash in Morongo Valley Saturday as David Castillo, 64, of Morongo Valley. Castillo, known as “Indian,” walked across Highway 62 at Lanning Lane from the Country Market to his home on the other side of the highway. When he was in the slow, or number 2 lane of eastbound Highway 62, he was struck by a 2001 Toyota Avalon, driven by Kalliope Bolanis, 63, of Joshua Tree. David Castillo went partially through the windshield and was pronounced deceased at the scene. Bolanis sustained major injuries and was taken by Morongo Basin Ambulance to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs.
