As California gradually reopens, many people will be eager to celebrate the holiday weekend with family and friends, and some will take to the road for the weekend. Wherever people choose to observe Independence Day, they can expect the CHP to be out in force for a maximum enforcement period from 6 p.m. Friday, July 3, to midnight, Sunday, July 5. Last year, 36 people died on California roads during the Fourth of July weekend. Of those, 11 people were not wearing their seatbelts. The CHP reminds motorists to obey speed limits, buckle up, and don’t drive impaired or distracted.
