
CHP and Sheriff arrest man during traffic stop in Joshua Tree with multiple outstanding warrants
A traffic stop in Joshua Tree led to the arrest of a local man with a number of outstanding warrants for investigation into battery, assault, and elder abuse.
On Sunday (April 26) at around 1:15 p.m. California Highway Patrol officers contacted the driver of a vehicle near the intersection of Morongo Road and Rainer Road in Joshua Tree. During their contact, CHP officers requested assistance from the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department. They identified the driver of the vehicle as Richard Sansoucie, 42.
Sansoucie was found to have two active warrants for investigation into violent felonies. One of those active warrants dates to December 7, 2024. Sansoucie was arrested after allegedly attacking the victim, sending them to Hi-Desert Medical for treatment. Sansoucie was released on bail.
A second warrant indicates that Sansoucie is facing charges of elder abuse, making criminal threats, dissuading a witness from testifying, and committing a felony while out on bail on September 4, 2025.
Richard Sansoucie was taken into custody for his active warrants. He is facing no new charges related to his interaction with law enforcement on Sunday. Sansoucie was arraigned on six violent felony charges and 22 enhancements for prior felony convictions and severity of injuries.
