“Certified Farmer’s Market at Founders Plaza” set for April 22 opening

Yucca Valley’s Farmers Market has a name, launch date and an operator. On Wednesday, April 22nd the Certified Farmer’s Market at Founders Plaza will hold a grand opening celebration for the highly anticipated outdoor bazaar. It’s being run by Lori Herbel, who runs the Joshua Tree Farmer’s Market on Saturday mornings.
Back in October of last year, two vendors submitted proposals for a Yucca Valley farmer’s market. Lori Herbel’s proposal was for a year-round operation held on Wednesdays from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. and ultimately won out over a seasonal farmer’s market proposed for Fridays. Herbel has over 20 years of experience running the farmers markets in the Morongo Basin.
There was considerable discussion on the right ratio of vendors at the proposed market during a Yucca Valley Town Council meeting in late October of last year.. Council Members at the October meeting expressed concern over “grab and go” food vendors cannibalizing Yucca Valley businesses around Founders Plaza. The new plaza and site for the farmer’s market is located right off Highway 62 and Elk Trail.
There was also discussion about the proposed days in which the market would operate. Herbel says that Wednesdays allow locals to restock on farmer’s goods midweek.
200 people voted in a poll on our website for their preference for the Farmer’s Market, which you can vote on and see the results below.
We’ll have more details on the new Certified Farmer’s Market at Founders Plaza as we approach the April 22nd grand opening date – stay tuned.
