Margarett Hill, 84, died peacefully at her home in Twentynine Palms on Friday morning, May 16, 2014.  Affectionately known as Muffin, Ms. Hill was widely recognized as a booster for local artists and the art community, animal rights and environmental causes. She was an avid photographer in her own right; her beloved cats often the subject of her work. Many local non-profits came to know Ms. Hill for her regular and generous contributions always given on the condition that her gifts remain anonymous. A payroll and tax accountant by profession, Ms. Hill served her clients until just weeks before her death. Estranged from family in native Toronto, Canada, she immigrated to the U.S. in 1978 eventually earning citizenship. A visitor to the high desert since 1989, she relocated here from Glendale in 1999. Muffin Hill received a diagnosis of lung cancer just weeks before succumbing to the disease.

An art exhibit honoring Muffin Hill, will be held at the Hi-Desert Water District in Yucca Valley. The show, titled “Water, Water” features the artwork of 36 different artists. Hill coordinated art shows featuring local artists at the water district for many years. An opening reception will be held 4:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Water District’s office at Inca Trail and the Highway in Yucca Valley. “Water Water” is open to the public and will be on display through July 14.
