Next Tuesday marks the third anniversary of the establishment of the Mojave Trails National Monument, which serves as a link between Joshua Tree National Park and the Mojave National Preserve. Managing editor Tami Roleff has your invitation to this weekend’s events celebrating the monument…
Several events will be held this weekend to celebrate the third anniversary of the establishment of Mojave Trails National Monument. Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. there will be a campfire talk and photo show by Kyle Sullivan, the manager of the Mojave Trails National Monument at the Mojave Desert Land Trust headquarters in Joshua Tree. A Mojave Trails birthday celebration will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Twentynine Palms Visitor Center in downtown Twentynine Palms. Then travel out to the Amboy Crater between 4 and 10 p.m. Saturday to photograph the wildflowers, hear about the site’s public access and history from BLM staff, and take a tour of the night sky with the Twentynine Palms Astronomy Club. On Sunday, from 7 to 11 a.m., volunteers are needed to perform trail maintenance and restoration at Amboy Crater.
