CAR HITS SCOOTER IN TWENTYNINE PALMS

A Twentynine Palms woman crossing the street in a crosswalk in her motorized scooter suffered minor injuries after she was hit by a car. According to Twentynine Palms Fire Captain Matt Helmkamp, Louisa Dielen, 71, was crossing Adobe Road in a crosswalk in front of the library in her electric scooter about 11:50 Thursday morning. Kevin Halfman, 23, also of Twentynine Palms, was driving southbound on Adobe Road in his 2007 Jeep SUV but didn’t see Dielen in the crosswalk. Halfman’s Jeep clipped Dielen’s scooter, causing her to fall out onto the road. Dielen suffered minor injuries from the fall and was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center. Kevin Halfman was cited for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk.
