CAR CRASH ON YUCCA GRADE CAUSES POWER OUTAGE IN MORONGO BASIN

Portions of the Morongo Basin were without power for hours after a car hit a power pole on the Yucca Grade Tuesday night. Morongo Valley Fire Chief Bob Springer said, for unknown reasons, Darrian Turner, 22, of Yucca Valley, turned his white Ford Fusion to the right, veered off the side of Highway 62 about 8:30 p.m. and sheered off a main transmission line along the shoulder. Turner —who was the sole occupant of the car—was not wearing a seatbelt but suffered only minor injuries and was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. Springer said portions of the Morongo Basin were without power until 4 a.m. this morning. The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
