Capt. Warrick discusses recent violence at Morongo Basin schools on Up Close Show

Captain Robert Warrick of the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station, was the guest on the Z1077 Up Close Show on Friday (December 16). As part of his conversation with Gary Daigneault, Captain Warrick was asked about a recent uptick in violence at local schools, and what some of the underlying causes might be. Captain Warrick said

“I don’t think it is unique to the Morongo Basin or to Yucca Valley High School. Unfortunately, we are seeing an uptick in school violence, and that is county wide.”

He was asked directly if the cause of the violence was social media, and he responded,

“I don’t have any data to support that, but I certainly think that it’s a contributing factor. Every student having a phone now, being able to communicate with everybody else on campus, and even off campus, ‘Hey we’re having a problem come back and pick me up and come to campus.’

That is priority one. School safety in the Morongo Basin is my priority.”

Warrick explained that he was working closely with MUSD Superintendent Dr. Patricio Vargas and the principals to improve communication and to strengthen the relationship between schools and law enforcement.
