Capt. Warrick addresses rumors about parolee releases in Morongo Basin

Captain Robert Warrick of the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station, was the guest on the Z1077 Up Close Show on Friday (December 16). As part of his conversation with Gary Daigneault, he was asked about long-simmering rumors that parolees and sex offenders are released to the Morongo Basin area.

Captain Warrick said “That is not the case, and I can tell those listening, that regardless of where I’ve worked, I’ve heard that in different jurisdictions, everybody thinks that they are being dumped on. But there is no evidence that I have seen to support that, especially here in the Morongo Basin.”

Captain Warrick explained that it is against the law to put offenders into an community where they are not from, and said that when parolees are released from prison, they are brought to a community where they have connections, most usually family.

“Anybody who is not from the Morongo Basin, and maybe when they got arrested and went to prison, they no longer have a residence, and they have an aunt, an uncle, a grandparent, a parent who lives in the Morongo Basin. When you go on parole, you need to provide an address of where people can come check up on you.”
