Since several incumbents for political offices did not file for re-election as of the Friday deadline, the filing period has been extended to Wednesday, August 13, for the Hi-Desert Memorial Healthcare District and the Town of Yucca Valley. Filing candidacy papers on Friday for the Hospital’s Board of Directors are Paul Hoffman, who resigned from the Board earlier this year, and Marge Doyle, former director of nursing services for the hospital. Also on the ballot is incumbent Joseph Sullivan, who is running for the short-term seat. Dawn Rowe did not file for re-election to the Yucca Valley Town Council, but the ballot has no shortage of candidates—nine as of Friday: incumbents Bob Leone and Merl Abel, and challengers Charles McHenry, Ron Cohen, Rick Denison, Lori Herbel, Susan Simmons, Jeff Drozd, and Bryan “Dean” Watson.
