Joshua Tree National Park saw two million visitors in 2015, and it looks like 2016 will be just as, if not more, busy. Park Ranger Pam Tripp has some reminders about camping capacity…
As visitation to Joshua Tree National Park increases, many people are making the trip to come in and enjoy the park, including those who wish to camp.
The park has eight campgrounds, that in total add up to 494 campsites. Two of these campgrounds are reservable. Black Rock and Indian Cove can be reserved from October to May each year through www.recreation.gov. The others are all first come first serve and they are Hidden Valley, Ryan, Jumbo Rocks, White Tank, Belle, and Cottonwood campgrounds. Each site has fire rings and a picnic table.
There are, however, regulations to adhere to when planning and camping in this beautiful desert park.
There is a capacity limit. No more than two vehicles, three tents, and six people are allowed per site, at all times. Groups over 6 people cannot gather in one spot, as this has a negative impact on the surrounding resources.
