It’s hot, but local camping is still available for the hearty. Ranger Pam Tripp tells what campgrounds are open in Joshua Tree National Park…
During the hot summer months, the demand for campsites at Joshua Tree National Park decreases, allowing certain campgrounds and portions of others to the closed. This provides an opportunity to improve impacted areas and reduce the cost of maintaining these facilities. Even in the hot temperatures, however, we have many visitors coming to the park, and so there are still many opportunities to camp and enjoy the desert. For those hearty summer campers, Jumbo Rocks and Hidden Valley will remain open. Partial campground closures include Black Rock on the eastern side, one loop at Cottonwood, and Indian Cove on the western portion. Complete closures include Belle, Ryan and White Tank Campgrounds in their entirety. A restroom will remain open at White Tank for hikers on the Arch Rock Nature Trail. All campgrounds should again be available for the October Columbus Day weekend. For more information on campground closures and camping in the park contact the park at 760-367-5500. For Z107.7, this is Park Ranger Pam Tripp, reminding you to enjoy the solace and wonder of your national park.
…In addition to the campground closures, the closure for the Cottonwood Springs Oasis and trail areas will be continued until further notice. This closure is necessary to allow for remediation of the damage and safety hazards in the area from the September 2013 floods.
