Caltrans pausing night construction on 247 for Memorial Day weekend

Caltrans has released a construction update on the $21.9 million dollar pavement rehabilitation and shoulder widening project taking place on State Route 247 – also referred to as Old Woman Springs Road. Nighttime work operations will be taking place near Yucca Valley from Highway 62 Junction to Gin Road. Project work is expected to be completed by this fall.

In observance of Memorial Day weekend, they are pausing the nightly lane closures scheduled for Sunday the 25th and Monday the 26th.

Work operations are expected to resume after the holiday weekend and will occur nightly from 7:00 p.m to 6:00 a.m. Sundays through Thursdays, and concluding each weekend on Friday Morning.

Friday and Saturday night work may occur as needed from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., with lane closures. Daytime operations will be ongoing in the shoulder areas.

Those operations will require one-lane closures with traffic control. Traffic will alternate lanes in both directions, with flagging at various work locations. A pilot vehicle will be onsite to guide traffic, and Caltrans is asking everyone to proceed cautiously through the work zone and follow flaggers and indicated signage for the safety of crews and other drivers.

Approximate flagging wait times per side are expected to be 20 minutes, so plan-ahead and please be mindful of work area signage as law enforcement will enforce applicable laws and regulations.
