Morongo Valley residents were quick to weigh in last night following an update from CalTrans representatives on the Morongo Valley median project. CalTrans stated the median design transitions from a guardrail system to a rolled-curb design to aid in drainage and to avoid dividing the community. Residents stated that the community will always be united regardless of road designs. Morongo Valley Fire Chief Gary Yearsley said recent rains overwhelmed the drainage system, making driving unsafe. Director Kristina Brook expressed the immediate need for reflectors in the rolled-curb area and cited concerns regarding design safety, referring to the rolled-curb as a “launch ramp.” CalTrans promised that all comments would be reviewed. Meanwhile, median work is nearly complete. The board also approved a temporary administrative assistant for the fire department, discussed additional tree-trimming needs in Covington Park, placed Fire Engine 462 into surplus, and called for nominations for the Chuck Osborne Volunteer of the Year award.
