WalletHub, a consumer financial information website, has crunched the numbers and found that even though California had a 255 percent increase in unemployment during April, it doesn’t even crack the top 10 of states with the worst unemployment rate. Managing editor Tami Roleff has more information…
California’s unemployment rate is at 16.1 percent, which places it 14th in WalletHub’s list of the 50 states and District of Columbia. It increased 255 percent from January, and is 307 percent higher than April 2019. The state with the highest unemployment rate is our neighbor to the east—Nevada—with an unemployment rate of 29.8 percent, due mainly to the closures of the state’s casinos and hotels. The state with the best unemployment rate? Connecticut, with an 8 percent unemployment rate, an increase of “only” 65 percent since January.
