For the first time in history, California has lost a Congressional seat, according to figures released by the Census Bureau Monday. The nation’s population grew at its slowest rate since the 1930s, driven by declining immigration and birth rates. While California’s population grew by 2.3 million people, or 6.1 percent in the last decade, it lost a seat because other states grew at a higher rate. The Census Bureau’s data that will be used to draw new Congressional district lines is not expected to be released until sometime between August and October.
