CALIFORNIA LAWMAKERS MEET WITH TRUMP ON SANCTUARY STATE CONCERNS

Last week, Donald Trump met with 15 California lawmakers to discuss illegal immigration and the California sanctuary law, SB 54, which limits state and local law enforcement officers from working with federal immigration authorities. One of the California legislators who met with Trump was Julie Hackbarth-McIntyre, the mayor of Barstow. Hackbarth-McIntyre was nominated to meet with Trump by Congressman Paul Cook of Yucca Valley. Cook nominated the Barstow mayor to meet with Trump because her city is one of several cities in the state that has come out in opposition to SB 54. Cook is also a co-sponsor of HR 400, the Stop Dangerous Sanctuary Cities Act, which would forbid most federal funding to cities and localities that refuse to comply with federal immigration law. HR 400 was introduced in the House January 11, 2017, and has been in the Subcommittee on Immigration and Border Security ever since.
