Get ready to spend more money at the gas pump, starting Wednesday, November 1. That’s when a gas tax, approved by the California legislature in April, goes into effect. California gas taxes will increase by 12 cents a gallon and diesel taxes by 20 cents. Lawmakers say the taxes will generate $5.2 billion annually over 10 years for road and bridge repairs. However, some California legislators are attempting to repeal the gas tax with petitions that, if enough signatures are obtained, would place the initiative on the November 2018 ballot.
