Since the year 2000, Cal Fire’s Fire and Resource Assessment Program has gathered spatial records of state wildfire and prescribed fire perimeters. The 2020 database reveals 500 fires and covers over 97 percent of the total acreage burned last year.
This collected data is an info resource used by fire and habitat managers, academia, homeowners, the media, insurance companies, and the power supply industry. Cal Fire uses the information for fire effects analysis, fire sourcing, fuel treatment effectiveness, burn probabilities and risk assessments.
The database was created through partnerships with the United States Forest Service, Bureau of Land Management, and the National Park Service. Links are available below.
