Burn permits in state-responsibility areas have been suspended starting today. California has experienced an unusually early start to wildfire season brought on by historically low rainfall, and persistent drought. The increasing fire danger posed by dead seasonal grass, drier vegetation, and hotter conditions prompted the suspension of all burn permits for outdoor residential burning except within incorporated cities. Campfires within organized campgrounds or on private property that are otherwise permitted will be allowed if the campfire is maintained in such a manner as to prevent its spread to the wildland.
