BURGLARY SUSPECT ARRESTED FOLLOWING TRAFFIC STOP

A Joshua Tree man was arrested Thursday afternoon, accused of burglary. According to a Sheriff’s report, a deputy made a traffic stop on a black Dodge Challenger near Sunburst Avenue and East Appian Way in Joshua Tree about 12:30 p.m. Thursday. After giving the deputy several false names, a man inside the car was identified as Anthony Smith, 50. Smith matched the description of a burglary suspect. Smith was transported for an in-field identification, and was positively identified by the victim. Anthony Smith was arrested for investigation of burglary, booked into the Morongo Basin Jail, with his bail set at $25,000.
