BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT TO ROUND UP WILD BURROS FOR SALE, ADOPTION

The Bureau of Land Management plans to round up almost 1,000 wild burros on public lands and offer them for sale or adoption. LaVickie Patterson has more information…

The Bureau of Land Management plans to remove 939 wild burros for adoption or sale from the Centennial, Panamint, and Slate herds. A BLM spokesman says the round-up is because the burros have damaged habitat and reduce the risk of burro-vehicle collisions. The BLM would use helicopters and bait trapping, among other methods, to gather the burros. The animals would then be taken to the BLM’s Ridgecrest wild horse and burro corrals where they will be prepared for adoption or sale. Public comment is open until April 15.

Release of today’s Environmental Assessment which analyzes the proposed action begins a 30-day comment period. Comments must be received by April 15 and will available for review online at https://go.usa.gov/xs7K7. Members of the public may submit comments to [email protected]; via ePlanning; or by fax at 760-384-5499.
