BURBANK MAN CHARGED WITH MURDER FOLLOWING DUI CRASH IN YUCCA VALLEY SUNDAY

A Glendale woman died after she was struck by an alleged drunk driver in Yucca Valley Sunday. Deputies were called to the 56300 block of 29 Palms Highway just after 3 a.m. on Sunday, April 28, where they discovered Alexa Castillo, 30, lying on the pavement after she had been hit by a vehicle. Deputies say the driver of the vehicle, Jose Banuelos, 31, of Burbank, was driving under the influence when his car hit her in the parking lot of a motel. Jose Banuelos was arrested for investigation of driving under the influence causing great bodily injury. Alexa Castillo was taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs where she later died from her injuries. Following Castillo’s death, a charge of murder was added during Banuelos’ arraignment Tuesday in a Joshua Tree courtroom. Jose Banuelos is being held in lieu of $1.15 million bail.
