The Yucca Valley Town Council learned at its Tuesday night meeting that the town ended its 2014 fiscal year with a surplus of $492,965. The surplus is primarily due to a one-time settlement of $318,000 in transient occupancy taxes and an increase in property tax revenue of $150,000. Town staff reduced expenditures by nearly $722,000 by savings from insurance costs, professional services, and operating supplies. The budget surplus and reduced expenditures resulted in a total reserve fund of $8.3 million, which is 93 percent of the town’s operating budget. The Town Council will decide at its next meeting what it wants to do with the budget surplus.
