BRUSH FIRE IN MORONGO VALLEY SHOWS FIRE DANGER

A potentially dangerous brush fire broke out yesterday (June 22) in Morongo Valley. According to Morongo Valley Firefighter Paramedic Nathaniel Garcia, a resident on North Star Trail lost control of an outdoor fire in their back yard when the winds picked up. Embers from the fire blew across the owner’s fence line an into public lands. Area neighbors unraveled hoses on their properties and doused the fire, buying time for the Morongo Valley Fire Department as they deployed. Firefighters arrived on scene and had the 50’X50’ fire extinguished in about 30 minutes. There were no injuries and no structures were damaged. Garcia emphasized that there is no licensed burning or open fires permitted in Morongo Valley at this time due to extreme fire dangers from dry vegetation.
