A brush fire in Morongo Valley yesterday afternoon (May 15) spread to more than nine acres before it was extinguished.
At approximately 5:30 p.m. reports came into emergency dispatch regarding a fire near the intersection of Twentynine Palms Highway and Hess Blvd. in Morongo Valley. The fire was initially reported as a five-acre brush fire.
At approximately 10 p.m., a social media account associated with the Morongo Valley Fire Department indicated that the fire had spread to 9.5 acres before it was fully extinguished by crews from the Morongo Valley Fire Department and Cal Fire.
No injuries have yet been reported.
One lane of traffic was briefly closed on Twentynine Palms Highway, and the fire is reported to have spread onto Bureau of Land Management land. The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
