BRUSH FIRE BURNS 2 ½ ACRES IN YUCCA VALLEY

A brush fire in Yucca Valley burned about 2 ½ acres Thursday afternoon. County Fire Battalion Chief Scott Tuttle said a passerby noticed the thick black smoke coming from the middle of a vacant parcel behind the Home Depot and Walmart about 3:48 p.m. Crews from Yucca Valley, Yucca Mesa, Joshua Tree, Twentynine Palms, Calfire, the National Park Service and the Bureau of Land Management all responded to fight the blaze. Tuttle said crews stopped the forward spread of the fire—which was traveling toward the southwest—at 4:20 p.m. A county fire investigator has been called in to determine the cause of the fire.
