Yucca Valley man arrested for suspected assault, vandalism and making threats during Saturday morning rampage

During an alleged attack on a family with a hammer, the suspect fell off the top of a car and was severely injured.

Witnesses told Z107.7 that Brian Hall, 42, began threatening neighbors late Friday night (11/15) in the Western Hills neighborhood of Yucca Valley. They said he carried a hammer and went from house to house in the area of Redondo St, and that he attempted to break into homes and made threats to residents.

At around 9:45 a.m on Saturday (November 16), the Sheriff’s department received additional reports that Hall was walking on Redondo St. while carrying a hammer.

At 12:15 p.m., Sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of assault with a deadly weapon near the intersection of Red Bluff Ave. and Redondo St. in Yucca Valley. Deputies report that Hall began to vandalize the house and vehicles parked in the driveway with the hammer. Deputies say that Hall was threatening to kill the people in the home, one of whom was a child.

Neighbors said they could hear screaming, and called 911.

A statement from one of the victims said that Hall smashed a window of the home and attempted to enter. The victim said that while Hall was trying to get through the window, a family member ran outside to the front of the house and got into his car to distract Hall and lure him away from the window.

The victim’s statement said that Hall climbed onto the hood of the car and started smashing out the windshield, before he backed the car out of the driveway and Hall fell off into the street and hit his head on the concrete.

Deputies say that the driver exited the car and removed Hall’s weapons, and he remained at the scene with Hall until they arrived. The driver is not expected to face any charges.

At least two residents in the area have restraining orders against Hall, and in September he was arrested for investigation into the murder of Steven Stoneking though no charges were filed and he was released.

Brian Hall was taken to the hospital for treatment for injuries, and was arrested Sunday on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, making criminal threats, and vandalism, and he is being held on $60,000 bail.

After Hall was released in connection with the September homicide, the San Bernardino County District Attorney’s office said that, “Hall was not charged at this time, but there is no statute of limitation that would prevent the DA from charging him with murder later.”

The Sheriff’s Department said that the homicide of Steven Stoneking is an ongoing investigation.
