A man is being questioned this afternoon following a shooting and crash in Yucca Valley Wednesday morning. According to Sheriff’s Sergeant Jim Thornburg, the Hispanic male suspect–who has not yet been identified– was arguing with a man and a woman in the 55600 block of Pueblo Trail. An anonymous person called 911 at 9:22 to report that two shots had been fired. The suspect got into a white Mitsubishi, with another woman in the passenger seat, and drove off toward Onaga Trail, and then north on Warren Vista Avenue. Witnesses called 911 to report a man driving erratically, and one woman followed the suspect to give his location to deputies. Thornburg said while deputies were responding to the scene of the shooting, they received a report about 9:30 of a car crash at the intersection of Warren Vista and Yucca Trail involving a car that matched the description of the fleeing white Mitsubishi. Deputies and paramedics who responded to the scene of the shooting found that the unidentified male victim had suffered a grazing head wound; the woman had been shot in the leg. The two shooting victims were taken to Desert Hospital in Palm Springs. The female passenger in the car with the suspect suffered moderate injuries in the crash; she was taken to Hi-Desert Medical Center. It’s unknown at this time what her involvement is with the shooting. The driver of the other vehicle was treated at the scene and released. The suspect, who sustained minor injuries, was detained, and Thornburg said he expects that he will be arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.
