BOYS’ WILDCAT BASKETBALL DEFEATS DESERT MIRAGE FRIDAY

The Twentynine Palms High School Wildcat boys basketball teams traveled to Desert Mirage on Friday for a Desert Valley League contest, coming home with two wins. Varsity won 75-39, and junior varsity won 52-48.

Coach Michael Usher said the varsity boys led early, up 29 points at half time. Saiz Aguilar led the ’Cats with 16 points, six rebounds, and sven assists; and Izzy Goldsmith with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Freshman PJ Horn recorded his first double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Jacob Hueso added 11, and every player scored and recorded a steal for the second game in a row.

Junior varsity battled a tough Rams team, and were led by Izaiah Leopoldo with 15 points and five rebounds, and Ray Thorton with 12 points and eight steals. The junior varsity boys look to finish the league schedule strong, putting their perfect record on the line against tough Yucca Valley and Banning teams.

With Indio beating Banning Friday night in DVL play, the Wildcats can clinch sole possession of the league championship on Tuesday night at Yucca Valley. The Wildcats end regular season play next Friday at Banning, before heading into the CIF playoffs.
